A Message From The Past. Scribed On A Pew. In Capel Salem Corris.

In the dark, unexplored corner of the upper tier of the gallery, the last remaining pew in the slate built Grade II listed Capel Salem Corris, that I am restoring, stood lonely and defiant.

I prised it away from the wall loosening the hand cut brad nails and turned it on its side.

I noticed there was some writing in pencil.

As a  time served carpenter, sometimes, I leave my name for the next generation to find.

A shiver ran down my spine as I read the old-fashioned script.

Blessed is the name of God in this church.

His work in pitch pine was of the highest standard.

I tipped my cap to his craftsmanship as I read his message passed down, hidden on the back of a pew that he made......to me.
